Although it is hard to believe, 99% of the items produced for this country (usually harvested and manufactured elsewhere) are trashed within 6 months. Even though the U.S. houses only 5% of the world’s population, it consumes 30% of the world’s resources and creates 30% of the world’s waste! Why and how have we become so comfortable with our throwaway culture?

Each letter in this collection represents our excessive consumption habits, and products are stuck in a linear process of extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal. Most of us are familiar with the three R’s, but importance must be placed on the order at which we approach them:  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. How can we rethink our consumption habits as well as reimagine the production of products so that we can close the loop on the materials economy?
