The Geography Sustainability Lab is home to Hunter’s own solar panel system and weather station. Completed in November 2011, the 3-killowatt photovoltaic solar panel system generates on-site renewable energy to offset a portion of Hunter’s non-renewable energy consumption, thereby reducing Hunter’s greenhouse gas emissions. It also provides research opportunities for students and faculty studying physics, environmental science, and the rapidly advancing field of renewable energy.
Students, faculty and staff can take a tour of the Sustainability Lab, located on the roof of the North Building of Hunter College’s 68th St. campus. Tour participants receive a brief introduction to solar energy technology, policy and economics from trained student tour guides. Each tour is approximately 40-60 minutes in length followed by a question and answer period.
